La Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière

For the price of a metro ticket, you can catch the funiculaire and visit La Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière which is a "minor basilica in Lyon which was built between 1872 and 1884.  The site it occupies was once the Roman forum of Trajan, the forum vetus, thus its name”.

Set high above the city of Lyon it provides incredible views of the city. After visiting the Basilique you can stop for a coffee or glass of wine at the local café, or enjoy an ice cream -  if you can decide on a flavour – there are 36! (I counted them). Once you have had enough of the view, you can make your way down the stone stairs which lead back to Vieux Lyon, or simply catch the funiculaire if you’re feeling lazy.  Unlike Paris, once your ticket (which may be used on all trains, trams and metros) is validated, you may continue to use it for an hour.

Each day I discover new areas of this city which never cease to enthral and enchant me.
