Life in Lyon

I love living in Lyon.  This city never ceases to surprise and delight me. I could be out every night, time and money permitting, to see a different play, concert, film or visit a new restaurant. Yesterday, was spent trawling the marché aux puces (flea markets) with a friend. I had met one of the traders, Marc, in my local area, and he had told me about this place – it’s a veritable Aladdin’s Cave!  You can find all sorts of things from the Camberwell Market-type rubbish to exquisite, handmade furniture,  Persian rugs, artwork, beautiful gilded mirrors, etc.  My friend Annie and I have started a contest to find the ugliest item.  This week’s prize went to an extraordinarily ugly light fitting composed of dead animal skulls.  Runner up went to a Star Trek like piece of furniture (it seemed to be a couple of arm chairs connected to some coffee tables).  It was made in the 60s – the “what-were-they-thinking” era.  I will try to take photos next week.

This week I started my new job which I am really enjoying. I am working for a language school as their “Business Seminar Consultant” and go out to various companies delivering English seminars.  I love my job – it gives me a great deal of flexibility and the students are lovely. I also have plenty of time to indulge my passion for cinema.

I have also been busy looking for a more permanent apartment.  Fingers crossed, I may have found one...more on this later.

I am so grateful and happy to be here. Every morning I hop on my hire bike and cycle either to the station if I am working or simply cruise down the riverbank.  It is absolutely glorious particularly now that the weather has improved.  The sun is out most days now and it is an absolute treat to be here!
