Personal space

One of the things that annoys me the most about living in France is the lack of respect other people’s personal space.  I guess it's the same in many Asian countries but as an Australian I find it really annoying when people push in when everyone else has been waiting in a queue.

Arriving in Dublin today brought home to me how refreshing it is to be in a city where people aren’t constantly running into you and pushing in front of you in queues.  I have been walking around Dublin for several hours and not one person has bumped into me. In Lyon it is a regular occurrence.  It’s as if they are all drunk and can’t actually walk in a straight line.   At the airport where we had to queue, a French woman behind me kept pushing into me as if this would make the queue move faster.  It’s the equivalent of tailgating on the roads except the French do it as pedestrians  and I just don’t get it.
