Port Douglas - paradise
After a blissful night’s sleep at Port Douglas YHA I am ready for another day in paradise! Finally I feel as if I am on holidays. The sun is shining, my accommodation is perfect and Port Douglas is my idea of heaven! This YHA is more like a resort than a backpacker’s hostel. I have hired a bike for the next few days so I can easily cruise around Port Douglas and go exploring. Aside from the great restaurants, bars and cafes, Port Douglas is a shopper’s paradise. I can see myself doing some serious damage to the credit card if I’m not careful! Julie, where are you when I need you?
There is a little bookshop café in the main street called The Bookshop Café, where I go for my morning caffeine hit. I also get an update on all the latest book releases in Australia. Then it’s time for some breakfast back at the resort – a delicious ripe mango and some smashed avocado on good fresh bread – and a chat with some of the other guests. That’s the thing I love about this backpacking stuff – you get to meet all sorts of interesting, like-minded people – who are more than happy to engage with others. Furthermore, the money you save on accommodation can be spent on good French wines, wonderful restaurants, tours, or whatever else takes your fancy. This, as they say, is living!
