Time to leave France?
In one short week I have gone from being euphorically delighted to be back in France to being utterly disgusted with the French.
The reason: being told by a real estate agent that I have absolutely no hope of being leased an apartment in France. At least she was honest, unlike the others who accept my “dossier” and never bother to contact me again.
I don’t often succumb to getting depressed over things like that but I must admit that that information floored me yesterday. I was ready to pack my bags and head straight back for Australia.
Silly me, here I was thinking that since I have been here for nearly 2 years, have an excellent track record in paying my rent, have a good job at a university and have another source of income from my Australian investments, I was a shoo-in! Wrong, wrong, wrong!!! As the agent told me, unless I have a CDI (a a permanent work contract), earn 3 times the monthly rent (in my French job) and have a guarantor, I can give up any hope of being accepted as a tenant in France.
As a café proprietor yelled out as he pushed his way in front of me, “La France pour les Français!” Well, they can bloody well have it!
Unless I can find a particulier (private owner) who can trust me enough (trust is in short supply in this country) then I have “Buckley’s” hope getting another apartment.
I know that these things happen for a reason. Perhaps it IS time for me to leave France ....
