Brasserie L'Ouest
It has taken me almost two years of living in Lyon to finally discover this brasserie. Unless you have a car, this is the least accessible of the four brasseries.
I regularly dine at the other three: Brasserie Le Nord, Le Sud and L'Est, and have always appreciated their beautiful ambiance and divine cuisine, (Bocuse has a well deserved reputation in France). Each is different from the other and I must admit to being particularly partial to the intimate atmosphere of L'Est, located near Les Brotteaux.
This one did not disappoint in terms of standard of food and service -10 out of 10 for both. The food at a Paul Bocuse Brasserie is of a consistently high standard and the service is always flawless. What lets the Brasserie L'Ouest down for me was the sheer size and noisiness of the place. This is a noisy and busy place, so probably not the best place to take someone for an intimate, romantic dinner. Another thing which grated was the presence of big screen television showing a rugby match. Being allergic to both sport and television probably impacted on my first impression of this acclaimed brasserie. Being a cold and wet winter's night, it was not practical to make use of the terrace, but I imagine it could be quite delightful in summer.
